“From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie… and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.” -Goodreads

Review:

Well, my life has officially ended.

Is it even legal to write a book this good? Honestly, I have never read a book this thrilling this intense this shocking. I am trying to write my review for this but I honestly can’t put into words what I feel about this book. I think I woke up this morning with like almost half of it unread and I finished it in like three hours. I just devoured it. I am not gonna lie I didn’t really know where this was gonna go. I didn’t think the Throne of Glass set up a sequel very well so I came in not really expecting anything but wow this book is amazing. I say it tops Throne of Glass because I am still shaking from the events in this book. The past 100 pages or so were intense and thrilling and I could not put it down. It has been a long time since I devoured a book this fast.

So to commence, Celeana in the last book won the title of the King’s Champion so now she is basically here to do the King’s bidding by killing any of his opposers no questions asked. It pleased me to find that that Celeana was actually sparing them and letting them escape while she just faked their deaths. For her next task, she is assigned to kill this guy named Archer Finn, her childhood crush, who the king believes is the leader of a rebel group in Rifthold. This starts the suspenseful and thrilling events of the story. While some parts were sort of predictable other I was completely blindsided by. The end of the story has left the next book wide and open for anything. I mean it scares me that anything could happen. I mean the possibilities are endless especially since the author can kill off anyone. I almost don’t wanna read the next books because literally, anything could happen. I am going to stop there because these are spoil free reviews and I am about to burst.

To move to a safer topic lets talk about the characters. Celeana, in the last book, had this girly side about her and she loved dressing up and doing all this stuff that other people hated which I kind of liked but as I read this her girly side was mostly gone and this ruthless assassin was shining through. I think Celeana is my all time favorite character. Maas’s development of characters is outstanding. Honestly, she writes the best characters ever. Most writers I have seen usually write uncomplex minor characters and then really put detail into the main character without actually developing a real person. Maas has characters that are well developed and I can imagine them walking down the road, hopefully without the weapons, and talking to them. Choal, Nehemia, and Dorian are my favorite of the other characters in this book. Choal makes me feel so many things like how his and Celeana’s relationship should be and the decisions he makes. Nehemia is perfect in every way. Dorian is surprising in this story and he really is just a great friend to Celeana (and I hope he stays that way).

Now I couldn’t do this review without talking about the romance in this novel. If you are planning on reading the first book or don’t wanna be spoiled on who get Celeana in this book then I suggest you skip to the next paragraph. Okay well how do I say this? Choal and Celeana are freaking cute and fantastic together. I am honestly so happy it was them together. As I say this it will be someone else next book ugh… I mean anything could happen. I don’t want them to not be together either. They are perfect for each other.

Now that I have calmed myself down over the ending of that book, I am going to finish his blog post and make it the last review of 2016. Crown of Midnight is probably one of my top favorite book I have read this year. I think the Throne of Glass book will be my second favorite series when I am done with them at the rate they’re going. I cannot wait to read the second book and probably will not wait the long aka right after I am done with this review. I think everyone who has read the first book should read this and if you haven’t read the first book well you should go read it so you can read this story of amazingness. I love this book so much. Anyways I will end this here because this has been long enough. I hope you enjoyed this blog and thank for reading!
